Evil Mary Blandy the calculating killer of her poor father… or was she? Mary was one of Henley’s most infamous scandals, one which rocked the nation. She murdered her father slowly and agonisingly by giving him arsenic and all to get her hands on his money. We know Mary poured the powder into his tea and broth, but were her hands really being operated by her malevolent lover with his eyes on her dowry? In 1752 Oxford Crown Court decided it was her and she was hanged. But what would we say now? This play looks again at the evidence, hears again the witnesses, but puts a 21st century filter on it and you, the audience, will be the jury. Was she guilty or was she so lovesick that she had no choice? You decide!
