JAZZ IN THE ROUND # 1
The first of a series of chamber jazz concerts, with the audience seated comfortably on the extended Kenton stage and gathered around the musicians. These are performances that will draw you into the music, improvisatory fireworks and passion at close hand, to be punctuated by casual chat from the musicians, who will offer insight into their craft. Audience numbers will be limited. So, do book early to guarantee your space with these world class musicians.
ALAN BARNES is the musical pin-up of the jazz club world in the U.K. As proof he played sax on the Tetley Beer adverts (when he insisted that he be paid in kind). He has led many groups of different size, style and personnel, and has recorded over thirty albums as a leader: he is the spaghetti junction of the British jazz world. Over three decades he has been the winner of twenty-five major jazz awards in many categories. His hard, urban post-bop is infused with so much passion and energy that you could believe it was minted on the spot.
FRANK HARRISON studied jazz at the Berklee School of Music and was a founder member with Gilad Atzmon of the Orient House Ensemble which now tours the world. Now he plays with many groups, also he leads his own trio. He is renowned as an accompanist and is in demand with many jazz singers. His musical ear is so good that it has been said (and proven) that if you were to drop a tray of cutlery, he could play back the notes as the spoons clattered to the floor.
Tickets: £18 (includes £1 theatre restoration levy).
Limited unallocated seating available for this rare and distinctive performance.
